Relaxed In-Person Creative Workshops For Anyone Who Cares, Thinks, and Feels Things Deeply

Upcoming Workshops

Would you like to explore your creative voice without pressure or expectations?

Do you want to meet other gentle rebels in your local area?

Yes? Come and make a zine with us!

No skills or experience necessary...Just bring YOU.

What is a zine?

Fan Magazines... Fanzines... Zines

Handmade, short-run, independent creations, and come in all shapes and sizes. The beauty of zines is the amateur, DIY spirit infusing their subject, content, and distribution.

They are made and shared for love, not money.

What Should a Zine Be About?

Anything.
Everything.

For example they could be, but are not limited to one (or a whole mixture of)...

Fiction (short stories, poetry, serialised fiction)

Information (share knowledge, research, expertise about a particular interest, topic, or field)

Instructions (how-to guides, recipes, techniques for a particular craft)

Comics (graphic stories, satire, experimental art)

Art (showcasing visual art, photography, collage etc, and/or articles and interviews with artists)

Culture (explore topics, history, experiences of particular groups of people or a geographical location)

Music (reviews, interviews, features of specific genres, local scenes, or personal playlists)

Fandom (celebrate movies, books, or TV shows)

You don't have to do anything with your finished zine. Whether or not you choose to share it, sell it, or distribute it in some other way is entirely up to you.

Light Bulb Mini Zine

Creativity never expires. There is always something else waiting to be discovered, explored, and expressed.

Why Mini-Zines?

Mini-zines are small and practical. They're a simple way to share messages, stories, and interests and develop and communicate ideas about topics, themes, and concepts.

They are easy to print and distribute because they are produced on a single piece of paper.

With their built-in limits, they are ideal for our live workshops.

What To Expect From A Live Drop-In Workshop

Our gatherings revolve around a broad theme (e.g. “change,” "belonging," "strength," etc.), which anchors our zine-making.

From here, you can develop your mini-zine however you like.

The themes are intentionally broad enough to let imagination flow with the guidance, insights, and inspiration that naturally arises through the group energy in the room.

What will you have at the end?

By the end of the session, your zine might feel complete or like the first step on a greater journey.

It's always hard to predict what will happen!

Sessions differ in size and length depending on the venue and date. Check each event on the calendar for specifics.

Who Is It For?

If you want to inject new life into a creative practice (or vice versa), or you'd love to explore something new alongside others, these sessions are for you.

You don’t need to think of yourself as a creative person to join us; prior experience with zines or visual art is unnecessary.

It’s a space for anyone interested in meeting like-spirited people, getting creative, and exploring topics together.

Whether you're a seasoned zine-maker or new to this type of DIY creativity, you’re bound to find something that’ll get your juices flowing.

Expect a relaxed, encouraging atmosphere where you can move at your own pace without judgement or pressure.

What To Bring

Basic materials like paper, pens, scissors, and glue will be available. But feel free to bring along anything else you'd like to use, such as magazine clippings, photos, stickers, old postcards, fabric scraps, or anything else you think would add texture and depth to your zine.

If you have materials to share with others, that would be even better!

Bring anything that helps you feel comfortable, inspired, and nourished.

How Much Are Sessions?

I run workshops on a pay-what-you-can basis with a donations jar/link available at the end of the session. If you can contribute to help with running costs, great! If not, you’re still very welcome.

Numbers for each session are limited, so you need to reserve a spot. You will find upcoming dates and ticket links below.

About Me

<b>Andy Mort</b> | UK<br>Founder and Creative Co-ordinator

I’m Andy Mort - a slow coach, songwriter, and sound artist.

I love making things, and I REALLY love helping other people find their creative spark so they can make things, too.

My life has been full of professional, amateur, and personal projects (music, writing, animation, podcast production, video editing, web development, leading The Haven - an online community for highly sensitive people (HSPs), and creativity coaching).

I also spent six years working as an undertaker. It helped me grow and taught me a lot about the things that matter most in life.

I have always connected with the DIY (or, should I say, “DIT” - Do it Together) ethos that underpins zine culture and indie music. I remember the feeling of having my first album reviewed in a zine called The Shiznit. It was special. It felt like the author cared about real stuff and was in it for deeper reasons than profit.

I love helping people find, explore, and express their creative human voice because the world needs more of it. More people exploring the depths of what it means to be human in a world of standardised, soulless, reproduced mass commodification. There is so much to be found when we let go of the commercial drive underpinning so much of the modern world, and connect with our creative spirit.

Download and Share

If you would like to download this information (including some bonus prompts), you will find a PDF version below. I've also formatted it as a mini-zine, so you can download, print it, and share it with whoever you like (I've included folding/cutting instructions).
