Growing In Circles

Pick The Lock - Growing in Circles White

Pick The Lock Group Cohort

Four live sessions. A private community group. Three months Haven Membership. A fresh way to explore where you're stuck.

Do you ever feel like you're stuck going round in circles?

There's something meaningful you want to do, change, or make more space for.

But you've been delaying it, planning how to do it properly, waiting until you feel ready, or you're unsure how to take that next step.

Or maybe you've got started but lost momentum along the way.

Common advice about getting unstuck often focuses on...

  • Having the right mindset
  • Building better habits
  • Enhancing your productivity systems
  • Hacking your nervous system
  • Overcoming procrastination etc.

This may be helpful to think about, but it's not the whole picture.

And if you're a highly sensitive person (HSP) it's usually the wrong place to start.

Stuckness Can Look Different When You're Sensitive

It's not always easy to spot stuckness from the outside.

Sometimes someone is stuck despite appearing busy and productive. And sometimes someone is flowing freely despite their slow and cautious progress.

For highly sensitive people, normal aspects of our natural temperament may be interpreted as a problem to overcome and fix.

For example, it might look like you're procrastinating, when actually you're trying to balance a personal desire with the feeling of responsibility for other people.

You might know what you'd love to try, but hear an old voice telling you it's impractical, selfish, unrealistic, or embarrassing.

You might be in a position to pursue something that matters to you, but experience uncertainty about what happens if you need to change your mind, who else will be affected if it goes wrong, and how things will be transformed if it goes too well.

And when you care deeply about other people and notice so much of what's going on around you, it can be surprisingly difficult to know which voice is actually yours.

None of this necessarily means you're not stuck. You can trust your intuition there. But it means there may be more to your stuckness than simply needing more discipline, mindfulness, or positive mental attitude.

For highly sensitive people, stuckness often has a unique flavour and requires a different approach. One that we need to be part of figuring out for ourselves.

Because sensitivity isn't simply another part of the picture. It's the fundamental soil from which our experience of everything grows.

Understanding this can be liberating. Because it can change the story you tell yourself about yourself, and it can shape the approach you take to the things that matter to you.

Sensitivity is not something you need to overcome.

In my fifteen years working with HSPs, I've seen how learning to work with sensitivity rather than continually fighting against it can free us up to build a life that makes sense for us. One where we still care deeply about people, causes, and situations, but no longer from a place of shame, worry, or over-responsibility for things beyond our control.

That's what this new Pick The Lock Group Exploration is focused on.

In this first Pick The Lock Group Exploration, I am carving out space for a handful of highly sensitive people who want to make progress on something important but don't want another system, model, or prescriptive blueprint that promises change that doesn't work for them.

You might have a particular endeavour or goal in mind, or simply be in a bit of a fog, unsure what matters to you and where you want to focus your time, energy, and attention in the current season.

Maybe you're stuck circling a decision, trying to get a project going, addressing something that isn't working, contemplating a change you'd like to make, longing to move in a particular direction, or simply trying to work out what you actually want.

This is a chance to take another look at it, and perhaps imagine possibilities you couldn't see before. But this time to do so alongside other sensitive people doing the same.

In case we haven't met yet...Hi! I'm Andy.

I'm a songwriter, musician, and qualified creativity coach.

I love helping highly sensitive people (and other gentle rebels) discover the practical joy of accidental creativity, embrace the rhythms of their natural sensitivity and process feelings of disquiet and uncertainty.

A map of stuckness...and possibility

I recently painted and shared a map of the different landscapes and terrains that can keep me stuck. It kick-started a fascinating and diverse exploration of stuckness.

Maps are a great way to think about areas of life that are difficult to make sense of. They help tangled ideas and thoughts feel lighter and practical by showing how things connect with and affect one another.

And we can identify potential paths and navigate our way around the terrain.

We'll use this map as a starting point. As we go, you might find yourself sketching your own landscape, noticing the places you've been before, the things that tend to pull you off course, and the paths you hadn't considered before.

Going round in circles often means you're getting nowhere. You try something, lose momentum, return to where you started, and wonder why you can't seem to make progress.

But sometimes we need to revisit familiar ground from a different perspective, with a different understanding of ourselves and what's happening around us.

We don't necessarily return to familiar places as the same person we were before.

That's why I'm drawn to "Growing in Circles" as a play on that idea.

Noticing what might be hiding in the stuckness.

We grow through rhythms and seasons in ways that might not be immediately obvious.

We'll take one of these areas each week and see where it leads us...

What I Hope You'll Leave With

While you may join us because there's one particular thing you want to get moving, I hope you leave with something more:

A richer picture of your own landscape of stuckness and possibility.

A way of seeing what's pulling you in different directions, what belongs to you and what you've picked up along the way, where old patterns are still influencing you, and where there might be more possibility than you realised.

Something you can return to whenever you find yourself going round in circles again.

You May Have Other Questions...

When are the live sessions?

The group is limited to a maximum of 10 people.

We will agree the meeting time together after registration.

You'll be asked to indicate which days and time slots work best for you. I will endeavour to provide an option that works for you, wherever you are in the world.

I want to keep the group small, familiar, and accessible, so there's enough space and time for everyone to contribute if they want to.

You won't be put on the spot, asked to perform, or expected to share anything you're not ready to share.

What happens once I join?

After your payment goes through, you'll be redirected to The Haven, where you can create your account if you're not already a member.

Once you've signed up, you'll have immediate access to the Pick The Lock dashboard and private group.

I'll send you a few simple emails to show you around The Haven and help you get settled in. So keep an eye on your inbox.

What will be expected of me?

As always with these kinds of experiences, you will get the most from it if you give yourself to it with a sense of openness and curiosity. However, there are no demands or expectations for what that looks like because only you will know what that means for you.

You won't be put on the spot, asked to speak if you don't want to, or expected to share anything you're not ready to share.

I will manage the space and want everyone to feel welcome, safe, and free to engage in the way that allows them to get the most from the experience.

If you have any questions or concerns ahead of a session, you are always very welcome to send me a message. For example, you might want reassurance that you can just join us and quietly observe. Or conversely, you might want me to actively include you in discussions and find it easier to be invited to share rather than putting yourself forward to speak.

Basically, I am committed to helping make it as simple and inviting as I can, so you can get the most out of it.

What if I change my mind after signing up?

You can change your mind and request a full refund any time before the first session.

Something else?

Do you have a question not answered here? Drop me a message and I'll get back to you very soon.
