In our Phrase Maze, we begin with our instinctive reactions to a familiar phrase and follow where our collective curiosity leads us. As we spend time with the words, layers often peel back, revealing subtle meanings and unexpected connections. This exploration sets the creative current for the month ahead, feeding into our next issue of Coming To Our Senses (our community zine).

This is the start of a creative journey as we begin this new zine cycle. You’re invited to join for as little or as long as you like.
Slow down and wonder alongside me as we explore a familiar phrase:
Sense The Phrase
Look on the bright side.
Notice what comes alive in you when you hear those words.
What do you see, feel, or sense?
Do they sound like comfort, denial, hope, or performance?
If you could touch them, what texture would they have? What colour?
If you could taste or smell them, what would linger afterwards?
Write, draw, or note whatever comes. No judgment, no editing. Just trace the impressions as they arrive.
Wander With The Phrase
Take the phrase with you into the world. What connections do you notice?
You might notice the contrast of light and shadow.
Maybe the words of a sign or a shop window display.
It might come up in what you’re reading, watching, or listening to.
Some things might have a literal connection to the phrase.
Other things might open a metaphorical link that intuitively speaks to you.
Something someone said.
Something you overheard.
Words in a poem, a song, or a movie.
