Book Club | My Path (Jana Curll)
January 11 @ 6:00 pm GMT – 7:00 pm GMT
Welcome to our first book club of the year! In this session, we’ll be spending time with My Path by Jana Curll, a children’s book that will help us reflect on pace, direction, and difference.
The book invites readers to stop measuring our lives against a single rhythm or idea of progress. It invites us to notice our own way of moving through the world, to recognise that others travel differently, and to consider what becomes possible when those differences are allowed rather than corrected.
Children’s books are especially helpful for this kind of exploration. They work through image and metaphor rather than argument, which can soften our usual habits of analysis and self-management. This is ripe for reflections on creativity, high sensitivity, and understanding who we are in the face of a world that doesn’t always get it (or make it easy).
Session Structure
I will share a sound anchor reading of the book at the start of the session, and then our conversation will flow from there. It will take an organic shape, reflecting the observations and responses of those in attendance. Given the nature of the book, I imagine we will dig into topics such as:
- Exploring your creative sound and voice (and finding confidence even in the face of criticism or misunderstanding)
- Noticing your own pace and where it feels supported or constrained
- The pull of comparison and how difference is experienced
- Expectations about progress, timing, and success that we absorb from the culture around us
- How differing rhythms show up in relationships and shared spaces
- What can emerge when difference is met with a creative rather than a corrective spirit
You’re welcome to come as you are, however you need. You can get actively involved in the conversation or observe and absorb. There’s no pressure to unmute or turn your camera on if you’re uncomfortable doing so.
