Who Have You Noticed This Week? (Journal Prompt)
Who have you noticed this week? Maybe it was someone you already knew, or perhaps it was someone you had not previously heard of.
We are consistently learning and discovering things about people.
I went to see Public Service Broadcasting last night. They blend anthemic post-rock with samples from archival recordings, radio broadcasts, and public information films. Each of their albums focuses on a particular subject, covering topics like the space race, the rise and fall of the mining industry in South Wales, and most recently, the life, accomplishments, and mysterious disappearance of Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean in 1932.
It got me thinking…who have I noticed this week? What caused me to pay attention? What have I learned about them? That’s what this week’s Journal Circle Prompt explores.
The Last Flight (Public Service Broadcasting) and Amelia (Laurie Anderson) are two albums, both out this year, about Amelia Earhart. It’s strange how that kind of thing happens! There must be something in the air. Both records have been on my playlist over the past few weeks.
Who Have You Noticed This Week?
Join us to explore this prompt and reflect on who you’ve noticed recently and what you’ve learned from/about them.
Who is someone you have learned (more) about this week? (if you’re stuck, maybe your Google search history can help)
- What did you learn about them?
- What was something they said or did that caught your attention?
- How did you first hear about them?
- What would you want to discover if you were responsible for creating a documentary about them?
The Journal Circle
The Haven Journal Circle started life after a workshop with Mandy Thompson about starting and maintaining a journal practice. We regularly meet briefly at the end of the week to share how we’re getting on with any practices, habits, and routines we would like to explore through journaling. Because it’s not unusual for time to pass without writing, we spend 5 minutes following a short and straightforward journal prompt, so there is always something to take with us from the week.
