Our Monthly Treasure Bag

This month in The Haven, we’re exploring everything through the lens of creativity, our foundational theme for May. I know how precious your energy, time, and attention are, and I don’t want the breadth of our resources to leave you feeling overwhelmed. That’s why this Village Bundle is a simple bag of treasures for those moments when you’re short on capacity but still want to stay connected. Inside, you’ll find a conversation from the archives, our book club read, and a handful of forum discussions and prompts designed for personal and community reflection.

The Creativity Bundle

Creativity isn’t about talent or productivity. It’s a way of being. It’s how we meet life, with all its complexity and possibility. It isn’t reserved for artists or innovators; it lives in the small, everyday choices to care, to connect, to imagine something different. It’s a quiet conversation within us that engages the world as it is while considering what it could become. It quietly whispers: I’m here. I care, and I believe something can emerge from this. Whatever, wherever, however this is.

Our Phrase Maze Prompt is...

"You can’t build the new without breaking the old"

What is your instant reaction to it?

What does it mean?

How might it apply to an area of your life right now?

How else could you look at it?

A Conversation

I wanted to revisit my conversation with Leah Burkhart, Setting Boundaries When You Want to Do It All this month, as it brought out a few interesting ideas to explore around the creativity theme. Leah talked about the idea of “death by opportunity”—how burnout can stem not just from external pressures but from our own excitement and endless possibilities. As she aptly put it in a previous chat, “The good news is, nothing is stopping us. The bad news is, nothing is stopping us“, highlighting how modern access to connection and creation has erased natural boundaries, seasons, and rhythms.

One key takeaway was the difference between a Hell Yeah! and a quieter, more sustainable mmm yeah, especially for highly sensitive people. While initial excitement and enthusiasm is great, long-term commitment often requires steadier energy. It’s difficult to sustain motivation if we need to maintain the same high energy state in order to make progress.

I’d love to hear what stands out to you from the conversation. Share your thoughts here.

The Book Club

We have chosen The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune for our May Book Club read.

If Life is Short...

James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, Tweeted, “Life is short. And if life is short, then moving quickly matters. Launch the product. Write the book. Ask the question. Take the chance. Be thoughtful, but get moving.”

It caught my attention because it floated into my feed during the Rapid Response art exhibition at the LTB Showrooms in Coventry. It resonated with the visual-sound collage I contributed to the collection, which explored nervous system responses to cultural ideas around time scarcity.

A Song

I wrote, recorded, and released this song at the end of 2023 after collecting responses from people at an art exhibition I was part of. They answered the question, “If tomorrow was your last day on earth, what would you choose to do (or not do)?"

I spoke about it a The Courtyard session in December 2023. You can watch the replay and add your thoughts in the forum.
