SUMMARY:Expressing Your 'True Colours' | A Mini-Zine Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Do you feel able to express yourself in the ways you want? \n\n\n\nWe sometimes say ‘true colours’ to refer to the parts of ourselves that are genuine\, authentic\, and natural. These are the aspects that feel most like us\, which may sometimes be dulled or lost over time or for various reasons. \n\n\n\nJoin us for this online workshop where we’ll make mini-zines to reconnect with those parts of ourselves and explore whether and how we might begin to express them in places and with people where we currently feel unable to do so. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s a chance to pause and reflect on where you’ve learned to dull the vibrancy of your natural colours to fit in\, please others\, and conform to expectations that don’t suit you. It’s also an opportunity to play and express yourself freely without pressure or perfectionism. No one else needs to see what you make! \n\n\n\nDon’t see yourself as a creative person? No problem! \n\n\n\nMini-zines are small and simple\, and they are for everyone! Using just one sheet of paper\, we’ll create a booklet that fits in the palm of your hand. It’s a low-stakes medium perfect for getting ideas out of your head and onto the page. And the great thing is\, you don’t need to get it right the first time. In fact\, for me\, mini-zines are iterative\, with different drafts offering new insights and ideas to dig into. \n\n\n\nWhy I love mini-zines \n\n\n\nWhat to Expect\n\n\n\nThis is a 90-minute online session through Zoom. \n\n\n\n\nWelcome: We’ll settle in\, and I’ll introduce the session.\n\n\n\nMaking time: Work at your own pace as we play with our mini-zines.\n\n\n\nRegular check-ins: Every 15 to 20 minutes\, we’ll have an optional pause (you don’t need to break out of your creative flow if you’re riding it) to allow anyone to share progress\, ask questions\, or offer encouragement. Interaction is welcomed throughout\, as and when it naturally occurs\, but quietness also feels normal\, and silence is not awkward.\n\n\n\nParting: We spend a few minutes together at the end\, to reflect on where we’ve reached\, how we’ve got on with the session\, and what we are taking with us. \n\n\n\n\nWhat to Bring\n\n\n\n\nEssentials: Paper (A4\, US Letter\, or equivalent) and something to write with. And something to cut paper with.\n\n\n\nOptional extras: Magazines for collaging\, paints\, pens\, or anything else you want to work with. The world is your oyster.\n\n\n\n\nBefore the Workshop\n\n\n\nI’ll send an email ahead of the session with some prompts to get your imagination going. \n\n\n\n\nPractical Details\n\n\n\n\nDuration: 90 minutes\n\n\n\nRecording: The session will be recorded and available to watch for 10 days afterwards.\n\n\n\nTickets: Purchase a single session pass\, or buy a Monthly Pass\, which includes access to this workshop\, plus all Haven resources and future events.
