Book Club | Entangled Life (Merlin Sheldrake)
July 27 @ 6:00 pm BST – 7:00 pm BST
In our July Book Club, we will read Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake.
Yes, Entangled Life is our first book club foray into the weird, wonderful, and occasionally ‘sorry, what!?’ world of…fungus.
We’re diving into the Wood Wide Web, those vast underground fungal networks where trees gossip, collaborate, and even send distress signals.
Why Entangled Life?
Because it’s astonishing—and if there’s one thing we adore in The Haven, it’s spotting how dots connect in gloriously messy, creative ways. Fungi, it turns out, are the ultimate gentle rebels: they dismantle rigid ideas about intelligence, individuality, and what it even means to be alive.
Merlin Sheldrake blends biology, philosophy, and a poetic sense of wonder as he shows how these enigmatic organisms dissolve boundaries between species, between life and death, and between the familiar and the alien. And also, how they can show us the quickest route out of IKEA.
For our hodgepodge gaggle of deeply sensitive gentle rebels, Entangled Life provides tracks for what promises to be a fun and perhaps surprising ride. It’s a reminder that we are all part of a deeply interconnected web, much stranger and more beautiful than we often realise.
Fancy joining? It would be a joy to have you with us!
What Happens At The Haven Book Club?
Our book club is informal, open, and welcoming (whatever the opposite of terrifyingly pompous is). It doesn’t matter if you are a voracious reader or if this is the first book you’ve read in years.
While it would be lovely to hear from you, there is no pressure for you to actively participate in our discussion. We completely understand if you just want to come along and listen in. These are relaxed gatherings where people are encouraged to be themselves.
Similarly, although you will obviously gain the most from it if you are familiar with the book, you are still more than welcome to join us if you haven’t read it.
Any questions? Drop me a message.
