Serenity

Surrendering certainty, embracing flow, and flexing in the storm

Do you find yourself waiting for the noise to quieten or the disruption to pass so you can start living?

Serenity is not just the calm after the storm; sometimes we need to surrender to the storm itself. To flex with life's winds.

Serenity is about letting go. Allowing the flow to happen though we can’t control or predict it.

Serenity isn’t a place of certainty. It’s how we absorb and integrate uncertainty.

Serenity isn’t a place of balance. It’s learning to accept and work with life's inherent lopsidedness.

Are you ready stop waiting for the noise to pass? You're in the right place.

Serenity is Not a Destination

“Arrival fallacy is this illusion that once we make it, once we attain our goal or reach our destination, we will reach lasting happiness.” - Dr Tal Ben-Shahar

Are you waiting for the noise to quieten or the disruption to pass?

Serenity isn't a magical destination of unblemished peace and calm. It helps us discover calm, peace, and meaning inside life's struggles and challenges.

Serenity is not just the calm after the storm; it’s surrender to the storm itself. It knows that to process life; sometimes a storm needs to happen.

Practice The Art of Noticing

Serenity is about noticing what you notice - observing what's going on within us - how are we seeing our own thoughts, emotions, and engagement with the world's happenings.

In “Several Short Sentences About Writing”, Verlyn Klinkenborg encourages us to “practice noticing”. Creative play happens when we get out of our own way and allow ourselves to be gently drawn to the detail that stands out amidst all the details.

He describes this as “catching your sleeve on the thorn of that thing”.

In this session we practiced noticing what we notice about a series of short videos.

Serenity In The Trenches

When things feel bleak, it's tempting to focus on everything that is wrong.

At the end of 2019 I asked some friends of The Haven six simple questions. I was looking for some cause for hope and connection.

If you are feeling the heaviness of the world at large, I'd love to invite you to check out their responses (and think about your own).
